CLE Offers Travel Tips During MLB All-Star Festivities

As the City of Cleveland prepares to host Major League Baseball’s All-Star game, Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) is sharing travel tips to ensure quick and stress-free travel through the airport.
Whether you’re in town for the big event or just heading out of town for vacation, we hope you have a memorable experience. The following travel tips and suggestions will help you get through the airport screening process faster and help get you to your destination safely.
·Travel with your All-Star program and printed materials in your carry-on bag instead of your checked luggage, but remember to remove it when passing through the security checkpoint to submit them separately for screening. Some high-gloss printing processes actually cause screening equipment to alarm. Separating the literature allows officers to more quickly clear the alarm if a second screening is needed.
·Baseball bats, whether commemorative miniatures or regulation size, even if signed by the home run derby champ must be packed in your checked luggage or shipped home separately. Although an essential part of America’s favorite pastime, baseball bats are not allowed through airport security checkpoints.
·Before your trip, go to tsa.gov to see what is allowed in your carry-on, what needs to be in your checked baggage, and what may need to be left at home. Do you have special needs? TSA.gov can help you prepare for travel.

The early morning flights are the busiest time at the airport and the most important for arriving at least 3 hours early for your flight.
·Don’t forget the TSA’s 3-1-1 rule at the checkpoint – liquids, gels, and aerosol (LGAs) under 3.4 ounces, must be inside a one-quart bag; one bag per passenger please. Pack LGAs greater than 3.4 ounces in your checked baggage.
·Have your government ID and boarding pass ready for the TSA officer. Remove the ID from your wallet – officers have to examine IDs separately. Check to ensure the name on the ID matches the name on the boarding pass. If your travel plans include connecting flights, make sure that boarding pass you hand the officer is for the current departure airport.
·Passenger must remove all electronics larger than a cell phone from their carry-on bag and submit them for screening separately. This does not apply to TSA Preü passengers.
·Empty your pockets. TIP: carry a small plastic bag with you. Remove everything from your pockets and place all items in the plastic bag. Stuff that bag into your carry-on bag or place it in a bin. You will be on your way that much faster with all your loose items in one convenient location!
·Thirsty? You can carry an empty water bottle through the checkpoint and refill it after you complete your screening. CLE has a number of bottle filling stations throughout the concourse.
·Do not bring a gun, gun parts, or weapons to the checkpoint – either leave it at home or check with your airline to learn how to properly package those items. More information can also be found at https://www.tsa.gov/travel/transporting-firearms-and-ammunition.
·Apply for a Trusted Traveler program, such as TSA Preü, Global Entry, Nexus, and Sentri. These programs help improve security, grant you access to TSA Preü, and reduce your wait time.
