CLE Continues to Build on Last Year’s Momentum

February 26, 2024

Press Releases

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) is off to a strong start in 2024 with 670,633 passengers served in January, up 6% year-over-year.  It is slightly above the same month in 2019, the industry baseline representing the last full year prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are greatly encouraged by the ongoing strength of the Northeast Ohio air travel market,” said Bryant L. Francis, C.M., Director of Port Control. “There have been numerous air service announcements in recent months, some of which is currently operating with more to debut this spring, allowing for continued upward momentum.  CLE expects to surpass 2019 passenger activity in 2024, further underscoring the relevance of our planning efforts to modernize for the future.”

CLE’s confidence in passenger growth is thanks, in part, to robust service enhancements on existing routes, thereby enhancing competition, as well as new routes recently announced.  These examples mean more choices for both residents and visitors, whether traveling for business or pleasure, domestic or international.

Approximately 10,250,000 passengers are forecasted to fly CLE in calendar year 2024.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) is Northeast Ohio’s Gateway to the World. Serving 10,000,000 passengers annually with over 125 daily departures to 45 nonstop destinations, CLE is Northeast Ohio’s premier commercial airport.  With nonstop service operating on 40 domestic and 5 international routes, it is the busiest airport serving State of Ohio metropolitan areas as ranked by passenger activity.  Eleven passenger airlines and four all-cargo airlines operate regularly at CLE.  The upcoming multi-phase Terminal Modernization Development Program will elevate the travel experience for all through an extensive transformation of terminal and related facilities.  It is anticipated to begin in 2025, the Airport’s 100th Anniversary, and extend into the next decade.
