Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) is proud to announce the completion of our Central Security Checkpoint Expansion, an important milestone in our ongoing commitment to elevate the guest experience.
Construction began in June 2025, and since then the project has steadily transformed one of the airport’s most visible and heavily used passenger areas. The newly expanded checkpoint now features four screening lanes and more than 300 linear feet of queuing space, more than doubling the former capacity and helping reduce congestion during the busiest travel times.
The footprint of the checkpoint was extended north into the area previously occupied by restrooms and the Interfaith Center, creating room to streamline the layout and improve overall flow. Stairs and ramps have been repositioned to eliminate the pinch point that previously formed when lines grew, and the CLEAR screening area has been reconfigured for a more intuitive guest experience.
Beyond efficiency improvements, this project also enhances comfort and accessibility. Travelers will now find newly constructed restrooms nearby, including CLE’s first adult changing station, an important addition supporting guests of all needs.
Throughout construction, the checkpoint remained open thanks to careful planning aimed at minimizing disruptions. With the project now complete, travelers can enjoy a smoother, more spacious, and more welcoming screening experience.
