Cleveland Hopkins International Airport has earned Level 1 Airport Carbon Accreditation through Airports Council International’s Airport Carbon Accreditation program, recognizing CLE’s work to measure and track its carbon footprint.

Airport Carbon Accreditation is a global program that recognizes airports for their efforts to measure, manage and reduce carbon emissions. The program includes several levels of achievement:

  • Level 1: Footprint measurement
  • Level 2: Carbon management and emissions reduction
  • Level 3: Third-party engagement in emissions reduction
  • Level 3+: Carbon neutrality for direct emissions through offsetting
  • Level 4: Long-term emissions reduction across airport operations and business partners
  • Level 4+: Compensation for residual emissions through recognized offsets
  • Level 5: Net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions, with continued work to address Scope 3 emissions

CLE currently holds Level 1 accreditation and is working toward recertification by continuing to track and report carbon emissions. As CLE advances its sustainability efforts, the airport also plans to work toward Level 2 accreditation next year.
