Leading Edge Environmental Projects:
Environmental Management System (EMS)
The Cleveland Airport System is developing a computer-based system for managing environmental issues, incorporating strong operational controls and promoting environmental responsibilities into existing daily activities. Identification and prioritization of environmental goals, environmental management and efficient utilization of resources will aide the Cleveland Airport System in reducing costs and liabilities, improving operational control and efficiency, and enhancing the overall environmental performance of the organization.
Centralized Deicing Facility (CDF)
Construction of a new centralized deicing facility to capture the maximum amount of available spent aircraft deicing fluid will allow the Cleveland Airport System to continue its role as a responsible environmental steward for storm water discharge. The CDF will virtually eliminate discharges containing spent deicing fluid into the surrounding storm water system. Furthermore, the CDF will be only the second centralized deicing collection system in the United States and will firmly establish Cleveland Hopkins International Airport as a leader in the realm of environmental stewardship.
