CLE Smartfares

Current Projects

Taxiway Q and Hold Pad

The project consists of the replacement of pavements of Taxiway Q and Taxiway K-1 (in the area south of Taxiway K) and construction of an additional aircraft hold apron to facilitate taxiing aircraft on the CLE airfield. Currently, Taxiway Q and Taxiway K-1 are utilized primarily during deicing season to queue aircraft as they enter the deicing pad facility.  Construction will begin in October 2009.

Cell Phone Lot

This project entails the establishment of a  cell phone parking lot for CLE.  The cell phone lot will be situated on Jackson Road just east of the Airport’s Concourse D.  The parking lot will provide 50 parking spaces in a safe, convenient location for individuals awaiting their arriving party.  As part of this project, bi-directional Jackson Road will be converted to one-way northbound and allow taxis and private autos to travel in separate lanes to ease congestion in the area.  Additional lighting and project signage will also be provided for this parking lot.

Lower Level Roadway Rehabilitation Project

This project consists of fully rehabilitating the middle section of the main terminal's lower level roadway. The work will close several lanes of traffic for the next 45 days and will be broken up into two phases.
  • Phase I will close the outer two lanes of travel while maintaining two travel lanes along the terminal frontage area.
  • Phase II will reverse this operation and re-establish three travel lanes while work is performed on the inner two travel lanes.

The construction started on Monday, October 5, 2009 and is anticipated to end just prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. All airport shuttle services, including the rental car shuttles, hotel and off-site parking shuttles, will pick up passengers in the limousine lot adjacent to the main parking garage. Passengers leaving the terminal will be directed to the lower level of pedestrian bridge for shuttle pick up.
