Ticket Lobby Livens Up with New Art Exhibits

Cleveland, January 13, 2012 – The ticketing level at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) is getting a temporary art upgrade. Cleveland Hopkins has partnered with Cleveland Clinic and the Western Reserve Historical Society (WRHS) to give travelers two distinct temporary art exhibits.

The Cleveland Clinic eXpressions/Explorers Art program displays interpretations by high school students in the world of scientific research as well as creative interpretations by children in grades K through 8. This exhibit will be on display next to the Delta Ticketing counter until March 1, 2012.

“This unique initiative employs creativity to engage young people in the study of health and wellness,” says Bryan Pflaum, director of creative learning for Cleveland Clinic’s Office of Civic Education Initiatives.

The Cleveland National Air Races display provided by the Western Reserve Historical Society features replicas of the legendary 1932 Gee Bee R-1 Sportster airplane and the Thompson Trophy, one of the most coveted awards at the air races. The Gee Bee is unskinned, providing a clear view of the engineering that created this plane flown by famed pilot Jimmy Doolittle. This exhibit will be on display next to the Information Center until April 1, 2012.

“The Cleveland National Air Races were the premiere aviation event in the 1930s,” said Dr. Edward Pershey, Vice President for Special Projects and Exhibits at WRHS. “Right here at this airport, the fastest planes and the most daring pilots in the world competed in races and performed daredevil maneuvers in front of tens of thousands of spectators every Labor Day weekend.”

Airport Director Ricky Smith added, “We’re pleased to partner with Cleveland Clinic and the Western Reserve Historical Society to demonstrate the diversity of arts and culture of the Cleveland Plus Region.”
