Cleveland, June 7, 2012 –
Registration is now open for the 4th Annual CLE Plane Pull® benefitting Special Olympics Ohio (SOOH). Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) will host the annual community event on Saturday, July 13, 2013 in the I-X Center parking lot. On-site registration begins at 8 a.m. and the first pull kicks off at 10 a.m. Early team registration is Friday, July 12, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at PJ McIntyre’s Irish Pub, 17119 Lorain Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio.
This year, a Female Division has been added as well as a new pull event – The Add-On Pull. One person starts the pull, then every 10 seconds a person is added to see how many people it really takes to pull a Boeing 737 12 feet. Over the last three years, CLE has helped raise nearly $100K for SOOH and its athletes.
Special Olympics Ohio provides year-round sports training and competition opportunities for adults and children with intellectual disabilities—giving them opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy as they participate in the sharing of gifts and friendship with their own families, peers, and the community. Special Olympics Ohio serves more than 23,000 athletes throughout the state, including 4,500 athletes in the Greater Cleveland Area (Cuyahoga, Lorain, Geauga, and Lake Counties) and 2,000 in the Cleveland Municipal School District.
“We are pleased to again partner with CLE for the 4th Annual Plane Pull® for Special Olympics Ohio,” said Paige Ludwig, Marketing & Development Director for Special Olympics Ohio. “We sincerely appreciate the resources that CLE lends to this event thus providing us a great opportunity to raise funds for Special Olympics. This event is one example of CLE’s commitment to the community and we are proud to be a part of it,” continued Ludwig.
At the CLE Plane Pull®, teams of 20 people will pull a United Airlines Boeing 737, weighing up to 150,000 pounds 12 feet in the fastest time. Each team will be allowed one practice pull and one pull for time. Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams in the following categories: Men’s, Co-Ed, Female, and Public Safety. Each co-ed team must have at least eight women. Each team is required to raise a minimum $750 per team to participate (or $37.50 per person). Teams may also raise additional funds to be eligible for top fundraiser team and individual fundraiser.
